So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ACTRESS – “STATIC” & “DOLPHIN SPRAY”

Veteran electronic musician Actress has announced a new album, Statik, due June 7 via Smalltown Supersound. Along with the announcement comes the beat-driven minimalism of “Dolphin Spray” and the accurately titled “Static.”

TAKE OFFENSE – “S.W.O.”

Crossover thrashers Take Offense have shared another taste of T.O.tality, and it’s a real rip-your-face-off shit-starter.

ACTION/ADVENTURE – “REAL JUICER HOURS”

Glossy pop punk torch-carriers Action/Adventure are back with a new single, with a lyric about a “breakdown” that carries some chugging double meaning.

CHENAYDER – “COLORS” (ft. MAVI)

17-year-old singer Cheynader originally released the song “Colors” on Soundcloud, and today it gets a new version with a verse from underground rap staple MAVI, and a music video.

SOFTCULT – “ONE OF THE PACK”

Softcult’s new EP, Heaven, is out next month, and they’ve shared another early taste, “One of the Pack.” “When we wrote this song, we wanted to celebrate women supporting women, and of course that includes POC and transgender women,” Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn say. “It’s sad that that’s something that I feel I need to specify and include in a statement like this, but the truth is there are some TERFs out there trying to exclude certain communities from feminism and even the term ‘woman.’ We pride ourselves on being intersectional feminists, even introducing riot grrrl feminism and activism to the shoegaze community in our own way, and we want anyone listening to our music to know that POC, trans women, and non-binary people will always be a welcome and crucial part of our grrrl gang.”

THE CALAMATIX – “ROOTSTYLE”

The newest band signed to Tim Armstrong’s Hellcat Records is ska band The Calamatix, and their debut Hellcat single is the dubby “Rootstyle,” produced and co-written by Armstrong.

FLORIST – “RIDING AROUND IN THE DARK”

The latest track from the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack is from Florist, who wrote a new song, “Riding Around in the Dark,” for the film. “Reading the script for I Saw The TV Glow immediately took me back to my own teenage years — growing up in a small town, never feeling like I belonged, and being obsessed with the liminal spaces between fiction and reality,” Emily Sprauge says. “I used to drive around at night and soak in these coming-of-age emotional tidal waves, dreaming about the world beyond my doorstep while simultaneously feeling a sense of ominous darkness. I wanted to try capturing that feeling in our song for the film. In many ways, it defines what being young meant to me, believing that the world is ending but somehow still living in it.”

ROSINA BULLEN – “INSIDE A BOX”

UK-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Rosina Bullen is gearing up to release new EP Trip to Tikal soon. Check out the delicate, waltz-time “Inside a Box.”

GENEVA JACUZZI – “DRY”

LA-based artist Geneva Jacuzzi has signed to Dias Records and shared her first single for the label, “Dry.” “I took a little break from writing music and when I sat down at home to record, ‘Dry’ was the first song to burst out,” she says. “The music came together so instantly it’s as if it had been waiting and perfecting itself for years in the ether. The chorus lyrics came that same week after I went on a date with Mike Judge and he never called me back (haha). I wasn’t upset or anything, but I had never been ghosted before and couldn’t help but equate modern love to an appliance you buy on the home shopping network.”

THE LOVELY EGGS – “NOTHING/EVERYTHING”

“’Nothing/Everything’ is the Yin/Yang of life,” says The Lovely Eggs’ Holly Ross. “There’s hope and despair, patience and frustration, the mundane and the extraordinary. There is a universal and eternal magic within the everyday world around us that needs to be recognised, especially when the chips are down. This song is simply what is. It’s not looking forward or back. It’s us now. It’s uplifting and it’s tragic.” New album Eggsistentialism is out May 17.

BAT FOR LASHES – “HOME” (BAUUER FT. BIPOLAR SUNSHINE COVER)

Bat for Lashes dedicates the new single from her anticipated new album The Dream of Delphi to her daughter “and her early love of house piano bangers and romantic driving songs.” She continues, “It’s a cover of the Special Request remix of Baauer and Bipolar Sunshine’s ‘Home’ which was her favourite song to listen to in the car. It continually made her dance and giggle whenever it was on, and brings back precious memories of driving around LA together.”

LIGHTNING BUG – “LULLABY FOR LOVE”

“I wrote Lullaby for Love as part of a mixtape for an ex-partner,” says Lightning Bug’s Audrey Kang. “It was actually kind of a joke between us, like leaning into the cheesiness of being in love. But as life flowed on, it kind of stuck with me. When you’re really in love, it feels like a special world that exists outside time and space. I don’t even mean with a romantic partner, necessarily. You could be in love with the ocean, with the sunlight, a really perfect day. And you just want it to go on forever. That’s what I wanted to express in this song.” New album No Paradise is out May 2.

DAVID GILMOUR – “THE PIPER’S CALL”

It’s the first single from David Gilmour’s first album in eight years.

CORNELIUS – “SKETCH FOR SPRING”

The new single from Cornelius’ new album is an homage to The Durutti Column’s Vini Reilly.

+/- (PLUS/MINUS) – “GONDOLIER”

“I bought this little keyboard and showed my son how to use it one day,” says the band’s James Baluyut of the second single from +/-‘s first album in 10 years. “The initial passage you hear in the song is something he came up with.

JANA MILA – “SOMEBODY NEW”

Dutch artist Jana Mila has signed to New West Records and will release her debut album, Chameleon, on August 30. Here’s the first single.

STAND STILL – “IN THE DYING LIGHT OF A SETTING SUN”
